Wembley; Barça and United Meet Again!.

By MK

History was made between the Wembley old twin towers; the old stadium was witness of the FC Barcelona and the Manchester United FC big triumph's when these two teams got their first European Champion Clubs' Cup. This year they met again for the UEFA Champions League on this same arena.

Teams.

This coming May 28, both teams will dispute the title of championship once more at the new Wembley Stadium and reclaim a new glory in memory of the past victories. This will be the 11th occasion both teams meet since their rivalry started in 1983/84; until now each team have 3 wins, 4 draws and none of them have consecutive wins. They have contested two major finals; Manchester winning the final in 1991 in Rotterdam and Barcelona prevailing in Rome on 2009, both for the UEFA Cup Winner's Cup.

This is not new, but still exciting; Spanish and English teams have met in fifteen UEFA club competitions; England having eight wins and the Spanish seven since Tottenham Hotspur FC won 5 1 over Club Atletico de Madrid in 1962/63 Cup Winner's Cup.

On 1994/95 both teams were paired in the UEFA Champions League and again in 1998/99; they draw in three games with Barcelona winning the other. On 2007/08 semifinals Manchester got the victory over Barça, but a year later, Barcelona make them pay when they met at Rome.

Both teams have 3 titles and they are looking to get their fourth. This could be the opportunity to be at the same level of teams like the Ajax or Bayern and just behind of Liverpool, Milan and Real Madrid. Manchester had a 100% record in finals, until Rome 2009. Barcelona has won three out of six and got balanced thanks to Manchester loss against Benfica in 1961. Winning would bring a third European Cup in six seasons, automatically becoming the first team to win the UEFA Champion League three times in a century.

The Stadium.

The two teams are not new to Wembley scenery. For the United this place has been the witness of nine of their FA Cup final victories. The place is also a memorial place for the Spaniard team. What can be said about the Arena that will host these two giants? Wembley Stadium is known as the"Home of Football" and has hosted five European Cup finals, and two UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Finals. The original Wembley was built as part of a British Empire Exhibition at the end of the First World War and was known as the Empire Stadium. Wembley hosted its first FA Cup final on 1923 with an over crowd of 200,000 spectators to witness the match between the Bolton Wanderers FC against the West Ham United FC. The match ended with Bolton Wanderers victory of 2 0.

In 2003 the Stadium was demolished to give way to the new structure, the famous two towers were replaced by the now iconic arc that stand over the stadium, the amazing design make it one of the most modern structures in the world. Through the years Wembley has been the host of many events like the EURO '96, the 1948 Olympic Games, many Concerts and even Motor sports. This is the perfect arena to hold the coming match between two giants like Barça and United have proven to be.
